(back to NESCP Curriculum main page) Satellite Images of the Reservations |
|
Many of the NESCP lessons utilize satellite images of their respective reservations. The Earth Observing Systems Project at the University of Montana has lent their support and assistance by providing the images coupled with the software to manipulate the images. Due to the large file sizes, the EOS project is storing them on their server at the University of Montana. The Mr. Sid GeoViewer software allows students to manipulate the images in many ways. It is a free program available for download on the Internet; the software and its address is provided along with the images at the addresses listed below. It is a very user friendly application, taking just a short time to learn. Students can zoom the images, use the magnifying glass to take an up close look at geographic details, use the measuring tools to measure area and perimeter, and perform a number of other functions. We encourage you and your students to use it to explore and work with the satellite images of the reservations.
