About the Authors

Julie Cajune
Julie holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Western Montana College. She also holds a Master of Education in Bilingual Education from Eastern Montana College. Julie is presently the Director of Indian Education for the Ronan Montana Public School system. Julie is an enrolled member of the CSKT Tribes and a Associate Faculty member of Salish Kootenai College.

Evelyn Carter
Evelyn is a member of the Confederated Tribes and Bands of the Yakama Nation. She grew up with the Nez Perce Tribe, from with which her father is affiliated. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Lewis and Clark College. Evelyn currently works with the Nez Perce Tribe in the Education Department.

Barbara Fry Quintasket
Barbara and her husband Phillip live in Omak, Washington on the Colville Reservation among a large extended family. She is a Kindergarten teacher at Paschal Sherman Indian School. She has spent the last twelve years studying the history of the Colville Confederated Tribes, and teaches Colville History courses at the college and high school there. She is currently working under her mentor and friend, Sarah Peterson, learning the Okanogan language and culture. She has a Master Degree in Counseling and Development from Eastern Washington University as well as a teaching degree with endorsements in Early Childhood Education, Language Arts K-12, Social Studies K-12, and Science K-12. She has been teaching for 16 years.

Cindy Fry
Cindy is a direct descendent of the Colville Confederated Tribes, born and raised on the Colville Reservation. Having experienced first hand the challenges of Native American children, she chose to become a teacher. She has taught on various reservations for the last six years now, and currently teaches at the the Muckleshoot Tribal School in Auburn, Washington

Solo Greene
Solo holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Lewis and Clark State College. He is presently the Education Specialist for the Nez Perce Tribal Environmental Restoration & Waste Management Program. Solo is a Nez Perce Cultural Specialist and is an enrolled member of the Nez Perce Tribe.

Sandy Kelnhofer
Sandy holds an Early Childhood teaching endorsement and Master Degree in Professional Development. She taught for over eight years at Paschal Sherman Indian School on the Colville Reservation. She currently teaches Enrichment to K-5 students in Wenatchee, Washington. She has two college age daughters, three step children and a grand child. She and her husband Ken enjoy camping, hiking and gardening.

Naida Lefthand
Naida is a member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes. She has lived on the Flathead Reservation in Polson, MT most of her life. She works for the tribes and Salish Kootenai College, currently specializing in health care and curriculum development. Naida has two children and eight grandchildren. For enjoyment she goes to pow wows, plays bingo and sews.

D’Lisa Pinkham-Penney
D’Lisa is an enrolled member of the Nez Perce tribe. She has a Bachelor’s of Science in Natural Science and Native Studies from the Lewis and Clark State College, and a Master’s Degree in Education from Washington State University. She is endorsed in K-8 and in science education. She currently teaches a Plateau studies course in the American Indian Studies Program at the University of Idaho, and enjoys being a brand new mom.

Regina Sievert
Regina is a K-12 programs manager and associate faculty member at Salish Kootenai College. Also certified as a 6-12 science teacher, she taught at Two Eagle River School, the tribal school of the CSKT, for seven years, and in Japan for one year. She has a Master degree in Curriculum and Instruction, specializing in multicultural education. Regina is also an Associate Faculty member at Salish Kootenai College. She and her husband, Dave, and daughter, Grace, enjoy outdoor recreation and gardening.

Jackie Taylor
Jackie Taylor is an enrolled member of the Nez Perce tribe. She has an elementary education degree from the Lewis and Clark State College, and a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Washington. She has been teaching for twenty seven years at Lapwai Elementary School in Lapwai, Idaho, which is located on the Nez Perce Indian Reservation.
