ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF SKC-RSI:

 

  • Leadership teams in all schools led by RSI Steering Committee members.
  • Technology inventory conducted in area schools; Listservs for area educators and technical staff.
  • Developed and distributed K-12 standards based culturally competent math and    science lessons.
  • Educational Resource Library (over 700 items).
  • Presentations at Pupil Instruction Related (PIR) Day; Steering Committee meetings; cultural and gender equity, educational technology use, curriculum development, and inquiry based science and problem based math instructional methodologies, trainings and workshops; sponsored conferences.
  • Impacts on Instruction:   Forensics – new course designed to motivate low achieving students ; Native Fish Interactions – Inquiry Based Science with local relevance; Full Option Science System in all schools.
  • Collaborations with   Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory, SKC GearUp and Upward Bound, SKC Math and Science Departments, LDMT, CSKT Tribal Education Department, CSKT Natural Resources Department, CSKT Fisheries Department, The University of Montana, Gonzaga University, San Francisco Exploratorium Institute for Inquiry.
  • Policy Impacts:   Montana Office of Public Instruction (OPI) data available online disaggregated by ethnicity and gender effective 2000 – 2001; “Indian Education for All” law (MCA 20-1-501); Changes to school calendars; a ll target schools have adopted standards based math and science curriculum; Annual Math and Science Olympiad.
