K-12 Programs

 
Big Sky Science Partnership: This NSF funded project partners faculty from Salish Kootenai College, the University of Montana and Montana State University with Tribal consultants and K-8 teachers from schools on the Flathead, Crow and Northern Cheyenne reservations and the Missoula area in an effort to strengthen science instruction and improve science achievement.

The Flathead Geoscience Education Project: Funded by the NSF, the FGEP is a collaborative effort between Tribal elders of the Flathead Reservation and the faculty of Salish Kootenai College to develop cultrually competent geoscience curriculum materials for use in Flathead Reservation High Schools.

Summer Institute of Math & Science: SIMS is a three-year grant that is a reservation wide consortium that partners Salish Kootenai College Indigenous Math and Science Institute (IMSI) K-12 programs, Confederated Salish Kootenai Tribes Department of Human Resources Development, (CSKT-DHHRD) Confederated Salish Kootenai Tribal Education Department and seven reservations schools.  The purpose of this program is to increase the post-secondary achievement of American Indian students in math and science.  Fifty students are recruited and employed by the CSKT’s Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) for six weeks during the summer.  The students split their work-week, working three days and attending two days of math and science classes on the campus of the Salish Kootenai College. This is the second year of the program and will begin June 16th and run through August 1st .  Applications are available at the IMSI office or on-line
